New Works
This year Fraser will be working on some exciting new commissions:
A double concerto for percussion duo Oliver Cox and Owen Gunnell, a new improvised concerto for Between The Notes and orchestra and a piece for chamber orchestra and big band. keep a look-out here for performance dates...
Discovering Music
In January 2010 Fraser is in Glasgow to work with muiscians from the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland on a creative project that will make and record a new work in response to Mozart's dazzling Symphony no 36 (completed in just 4 days!). You can hear the results on BBC Radio 3's Discovering Music programme.
Play The Building
In February Fraser will spend a week working with the Aldeburgh Young Muiscians in a project wich looks at composing music for specific architechtural spaces. The inspirational setting of Snape Maltings and its various historical buildings of the povide the starting point for this unique project which combines accoustics, electronics, composition, improvisation and site-specific performance.
INSPIRE Composer Labs
Throughout February, March and April Fraser will travel the UK to lead the BBC Proms Inspire Composer Labs. These workshops offer a chance for young composers to join professional composers and musicians from some of the UK's top performing ensembles for a day, exploring composition and creativity. Labs will be held in Glasgow 07/02, London 13 & 14/02, Cardiff 07/03, Cornwall 14/03, Birmingham 06/04 and Manchester 11/04.
Landguard Fort
On March 9th Bruce Nockles (trumpet) and Simon Haram (saxophone) from the London Sinfonietta will perform Fraser's Landguard Fort fanfare at Islington Assemblt Halls, London.
Utrecht Gadget
Between The Notes, the Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra and young muiscians from Utrecht peform Fraser's concerto for quintet and orchestra, Gadget at the Vredenburg Leidsche Ryn, Utrecht on April 23rd 2010.
Desert Music
Between The Notes travel to Abu Dhabi from March 22 - 26 for the 7th Abu Dhabi Music Festival. The group will be leading workshops and performing two concerts.
Ensemble Modern
May sees the start of part 2 of an extensive training and composition project with members of the Frankfurt based modern music specialists Ensemble Modern. The project will develop to incoporate young people involved in creating music, dance, art and literature culminating in a performance of work inspired by art and nature from June 25-27 2010.
Pulse
Throughout the Spring and Summer Fraser leads another collaboration with Pulse, the multi-talented vocal group who work under the expert guidance of Mary King at the Southbank Centre London. A new work will be performed at the QEH in June 2010.
On The Road
In August Fraser travels to Salzburg to lead a music-theatre project with young musicians and members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The project is a collaboration with the Salzburg Festival and the VPO and will be based on the Mozart's opera Don Giovanni.
Summer Projects
Throughout August, Fraser will be leading both the Royal College of Music Summer School as well as many of the summers' BBC Proms events, including working with young composers, running the BBC's Inspire Day as well as introducing audiences to the composers and their music through a series of interactive and informative pre-concert talks.
